NYC Amends Anti-Chokehold Law
The Mayor recently passed a bill deeming it illegal to chokehold during an arrest; however, the New York City Council is now amending that law.
The NYPD said it is causing a decrease in arrests during a violent period because officers are afraid to compress someone’s diaphragm unintentionally.
They will revise the amendment by adding the word “recklessly” and include that it is illegal only when an injury occurs.
