NYC Issues Flood Watch, Travel Advisory Ahead Of Heavy Rain
Yisroel R.
New York City officials have issued a Flood Watch and travel advisory ahead of a storm expected to bring heavy rain beginning Tuesday morning, warning residents to prepare for dangerous flooding and difficult travel conditions.
The advisory is in effect from 8:00 a.m. Tuesday through 8:00 a.m. Wednesday. The city is urging residents to allow extra travel time, remain cautious while traveling, and use public transportation when possible. However, officials warn riders not to enter flooded subway stations.
Forecasters say 2 to 4 inches of rain are expected across the city, with some locations likely to receive even higher amounts. Rainfall rates could exceed 2 inches per hour, increasing the risk of flash flooding in low-lying and flood-prone areas.
Residents living in basement apartments are being urged to relocate to higher ground before flooding begins and never remain inside if water starts rising. Officials also remind the public never to drive or walk through flooded streets, as conditions can quickly become life-threatening.
New York City Emergency Management is encouraging residents to stay informed by signing up for Notify NYC alerts and to closely monitor weather conditions throughout the storm as heavy rainfall moves through the area.
