NYC Reports Progress in Repairing 14,000 Broken Parking Meters

Boro Park – The department of transportation said it has fixed about 75 percent of the 14,000 parking meters that broke down last week and stopped accepting credit cards.

Many parking meters stationed throughout New York City were not in proper working order since Thursday. There have been complaints that the meter maids are only accepting cash and not credit cards. When swiping, many of them come up as invalid.

The issue, which was reported around New York City, was blamed on technical issues.

Transportation Commissioner Polly Trottenberg said that as of Monday morning, nearly 10,000 of the meters were back in working order. Priority was given to municipal lots and at locations where credit-card use is the highest.

“Crews are in all boroughs working around the clock,” the department said in a tweet.
