NYPD Arrests Additional Suspects in Boro Park Hate Crime on Shabbos

By Yehudit Garmaise

The NYPD has arrested 19-year-old Ashan Azad and 20-year-old Haider A. Anjam, who are the two remaining suspects who harassed and threatened Yidden outside the Agudath Israel shul at 4911 16th Ave. on Shabbos, right after punching and threatening two Flatbush yeshiva boys, who said they feared for their lives if a Muslim Uber driver did not intervene.

Both Azad and Anjam were charged with aggravated harassement and hate crime harrassment, and Anjam was additionally charged with hate crime menacing.

Yesterday, police arrested the first suspect of the trio: 20-year-old Danial Shaukut, who lives in Bensonhurst, and actually said he was sorry to reporters as police officers escorted him out of the 66th precinct station.

Shaukut was charged with aggravated harassment and perpetrating a hate crime.

After hatefully yelling, “Free Palestine!” at one Jewish man, who was waiting at a stoplight to go to shul, one of the perpetrators spit at another Boro Parker and screamed, “We’ll kill all the Jews down here,” one witness told Assemblyman Simcha Eichenstein and mayoral candidate Andrew Yang, who met with victims of the hate crime on Sunday.

The perpetrators tried to follow closely behind the Yidden, as if to attack them, but they quickly ran into their shul and closed and locked the door.
