NYPD's Newly Designed Patrol Fleet Hits the Road

M.C. Millman

The NYPD's newly redesigned and updated patrol fleet, announced in January, as reported by BoroPark24 here, has begun patrolling throughout the five boroughs.

The green, blue, and white on the NYPD flag, which was 100 years old in 2019, is reflected in the color design of the new fleet as well.

"The color green celebrates the history of New York law enforcement," the NYPD reports on Twitter,  "and can be traced back to 1658 when the New Amsterdam night watchmen — the city's first paid police force — carried lanterns with green glass."

The last time the NYPD's fleet had a makeover was in 1996.
