NYSDOT Highlights Work Zone Safety After Close Call in Sullivan County
By Y.M. Lowy
Following a close call last week in Sullivan County, where a vehicle struck a crash cushion in an active work zone, the New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) is reminding drivers to slow down, stay alert, and use caution near construction areas.
Driving near work zones requires extra attention. Lane shifts, equipment close to traffic, and changing road conditions can create sudden hazards. Slowing down and moving over keeps everyone safer on the road, helping drivers and passengers avoid crashes and costly damage.
Lower speeds give drivers more time to react and more control if something unexpected happens. Even when it is not possible to change lanes, easing off the gas can prevent serious accidents.
