OMNY Vending Machines Coming Soon to Subway Stations All Over NYC
OMNY vending machines will be installed at 427 subway stations by September.
MetroCards will still work, but the OMNY vending machines will give riders an easy way to buy and reload their OMNY fare cards. The tap-to-pay system can only be used by riders with smartphones, contactless credit cards, or by those who buy a physical OMNY card from a retail store.
By the end of November, OMNY readers will also be added to the turnstiles for the Roosevelt Island Tramway as well as one of the entrances for the JFK AirTrain. MetroCards are currently the only form of payment available at both locations.
Already, 40% of subway and bus riders pay their fares with the OMNY system. The goal is to encourage even more riders to give up MetroCards and switch to OMNY once the new vending machines are more readily available.
