How do you tell the story of the illness we can barely name out loud?

We say יענע מחלה or יענע מעשׂה;  euphemisms, hints, specks of the true meaning.

No matter how you say it, cancer strikes a discord of terror and pain.

But we must speak of it. More importantly, we must do.

For Cholei Eretz Yisroel, the pain of cancer is thousandfold.

It’s extremely difficult to gain access to doctors, treatments, and insurance in Israel. On top of the already severe poverty, families are lost.

Where to go? Where to turn? Who to ask?

In the past, many have traveled to seek treatment in the US, turning to their brethren to raise funds. Here too, doors were slammed and the process was prolonged due to language barriers and financial difficulties.

In 2011, new hope dawned with the establishment of Rofeh Cholim Yerushalayim (RCY), the Israeli branch of RCCS.

RCY writes a new chapter to their story. Instead of questions, they have answers. Where there was confusion, there is hope. And when the story seems destined for bitterness, RCY leads them toward a hopeful conclusion.
