Only Two MTA Fines Issued to Riders Without Masks

Only Two MTA Fines Issued to Riders Without Masks

Governor Andrew Cuomo's $50 fine for MTA riders who don't mask up went into effect September 14, and has since then, only charged two people.

This data does not include information from the first four days of the mandate going into effect.

Cuomo authorized this initiative because he predicts an uptick in mass transit use as New York takes steps towards reopening.

The Governor wants to keep riders safe to ensure their safety and return.
