A 42-year-old man died after a hit-and-run early Sunday morning.

Police responded to a 911 call around 3 a.m. at New Utrecht Avenue and 72nd Street. Investigators say a red car was heading south when it hit a pedestrian crossing outside the marked crosswalk.

The victim, identified as Pascual Tziquin, was taken to Maimonides Medical Center in critical condition and later died.

The driver fled the scene. Following an investigation, police arrested 21-year-old Christian Gonzalez of Pennsylvania. He has been charged with leaving the scene of an incident without reporting and making unsafe lane changes without signaling.
