A tragic incident unfolded this afternoon at the 62nd Street and New Utrecht Avenue subway station when a person was struck and pinned under an N train.
Firefighters responded to the scene at around 3:50 p.m. after receiving reports of someone trapped beneath the train. Upon arrival, they found the individual pinned under the train and immediately began efforts to free the body.
After an extended attempt, the FDNY was unable to complete the recovery, and the NYPD’s Emergency Service Unit (ESU) was called in. ESU officers ultimately removed the body from the tracks.
At this time, authorities have not released the identity or gender of the individual, and it remains unclear how the person ended up on the tracks.
Service on the N line was disrupted as emergency crews worked at the scene. The NYPD is continuing its investigation.
