Preparation Underway for Repairs at New Utrecht Avenue Station
By Y.M. Lowy
Boro Park residents may have noticed wooden frames and bright orange nets popping up around the train tracks on New Utrecht Ave, and many wondered what it was all about.
BoroPark24 reached out to the MTA to get the details.
Construction is about to begin at the New Utrecht Avenue train station in Brooklyn as part of a major repair project on the D line’s elevated structure, in order to keep the line in good shape for the next 30 years by fixing corrosion and damage to the steel columns.
The D train service won’t be affected during the current phase, which is expected to wrap up by the end of summer. Crews are removing lead paint, repairing steel columns, replacing concrete bases, and restoring sidewalks and roads.
After this phase, painting and more steel repairs will follow, which might affect some street parking in stages.
