Prospect Park’s Lakeside Center Reopens with Upgrades
By Y.M. Lowy
Prospect Park’s LeFrak Center at Lakeside is reopening with upgraded spaces and new programs. The relaunch will be marked with a weekend of free public activities on August 2 and 3, Shabbos and Sunday.
First opened more than a decade ago, Lakeside was one of the park’s biggest transformation projects. The Prospect Park Alliance removed an old skating rink and parking lot to restore the lakeshore and create a new year-round destination.
Today, the center offers Brooklyn’s largest water play area, along with roller skating, boating, and ice sports in the winter.
As part of the upgrades, the Alliance has expanded programming and brought in new partners to improve food service and events. Revenue from the concession stands help fund park care and maintenance. This model lets the park reinvest directly in what visitors use and enjoy.
Now, after a fresh round of improvements, Lakeside is ready to welcome New Yorkers once again.
