Readers Write: Frustration Over Towed Vehicles and Sidewalk Obstruction During Passover Road Work
To whomever this may concern,
This past Monday, on Passover, an incident occurred that has left me and many of my fellow Boro Park residents upset.
Monday morning at 7AM, without prior notice, city workers showed up at 16th Ave and 43rd St, a residential area right near the Emunas Yisroel synagogue and a public school, to do some road work in front of the nearby Public School I.S. 223 The Montauk.
The workers towed many vehicles that were parked there, and since we hadn’t gotten prior notice and it was a holiday, Jewish residents were unable to move their cars to avoid getting towed.
After the road work was completed, the workers parked a tractor on the sidewalk, causing many residents, including elderly people and children, to have to walk around the tractor and onto the street in order to walk home from the synagogue.
Although we appreciate the improvements the road workers bring to our city, I don’t believe they should be taking advantage of the fact that we were unable to pick up a phone to call city officials and get someone involved. The workers should not be allowed to tow vehicles without prior warning and cause safety concerns by parking their tractors on the sidewalk.
I hope this can be addressed so that it doesn’t happen again.
Thank you,
A concerned resident.
