Readers Write: Local Resident Calls on PS 231 to Address Early Bus Congestion

To whom it may concern at PS 231, located on 16th Avenue & 56th Street:

I am a resident from around the corner. I travel, go shopping, to work, appointments, and cruise through my neighborhood. Traffic is bad, as it is in most of Brooklyn, but your school buses have been exacerbating the issue by arriving hours before dismissal every single day.

The school is situated in a busy area; there's a police station a block away, several Jewish schools around the corner, many doctors’ offices and various stores in the surrounding blocks. Despite that, there's absolutely no concern shown by your bus drivers about gridlocking the neighborhood every single day.

Why is it that the buses who are picking up the children at dismissal arrive a few hours in advance? The public school is located in a No Standing Zone, which limits parking and traffic even further, but your 10+ school buses all arrive hours before dismissal and double park on the street, causing 4 - 5 avenue blocks to be affected every day.

Please advise as to what you will do to accommodate the rest of the neighborhood and ensure that traffic can run smoothly during school hours.

Thank you,

A Neighbor
