Satmar Mikvah on 20th Avenue Receives City Approval
By Y.M. Lowy
The Satmar Kehilla Yetev Lev is moving forward with plans for a new mikvah on 20th Avenue, and Boro Park will soon see construction begin. In an official statement, the kehilla expressed gratitude to local askanim and particularly to the Mayor’s office and his team for their support in getting the project approved.
The project received approval from the New York City Board of Standards and Appeals (BSA), more than a year after extensive askanus efforts. The new mikvah will be much larger than originally planned: it will be three stories tall and occupies two lots on a corner property.
This will be the second mikvah for the kehilla, designed to serve the other side of Boro Park. The first mikvah is located on Dahill Avenue. The new property was purchased over a year ago, but earlier plans for a larger structure were rejected. With the city’s recent approval, the kehilla can now move ahead with the expanded design.
Boro Park residents can expect to see construction work going into action soon and watch the new mikvah go up in a new neighborhood.
