Scott Stringer to Explore Running for NYC Mayor in 2025

This morning, former New York City comptroller Scott Stringer announced that he will form an exploratory committee to examine the prospect of running for mayor of New York City against incumbent Mayor Eric Adams. 

Stringer is filing the necessary paperwork with the city’s Campaign Finance Board to launch such a committee—suggesting that he, a fellow Democrat, is seriously considering challenging the sitting mayor. 

No Democrat has successfully challenged a sitting Democrat mayor since Mayor David Dinkins beat Mayor Ed Koch in 1989.
