SHOCKING: Brooklyn Men Behind Brazen Kiryas Yoel Scamming Scheme

By BoroPark24 Staff

In a deeply troubling case, two men from Brooklyn were arrested for attempting to scam a heimishe individual out of $15,000 by pretending to be FBI agents, a tactic that has become increasingly common in recent months.

The suspects, Wei Baoguo (34) and Yu Sheng Gui (38), contacted a 27-year-old victim and falsely claimed that he was under investigation by the FBI and needed to pay $15,000 to avoid arrest. Tragically, the victim believed them and agreed to meet to hand over the cash.

Thanks to swift action by New York State Police and Kiryas Yoel Public Safety, both suspects were apprehended later that same day, as reported on Daily Monroe. They were arraigned in court on August 5 and shockingly released without bail. Their next court appearance is scheduled for September 4 in Blooming Grove Town Court.

This case is part of a growing pattern of scams that seem to be specifically targeting our community. Just two weeks ago, a similar incident took place in Williamsburg, where a heimishe woman was nearly tricked into handing over $24,000 before Shomrim and the NYPD intervened and arrested the scammer at the scene.

While the recent arrests are a relief and hopefully a step toward ending these scams, these incidents are far too frequent and ongoing.

🔴 BE ALERT!

Never hand over cash or personal information based on a phone call, even if the caller sounds official or knows your personal details like your address or ID number. That’s exactly how they try to manipulate and scare you.

If you receive a suspicious or threatening call:

  • Do not give in to pressure.
  • Hang up and call your local police, or ask trusted askanim for guidance.
  • Never meet someone or withdraw money based on a demand over the phone

Better safe than sorry, even if they tell you not to speak to anyone, always reach out for help before becoming the next victim, chas v’shalom.

Please share this information with your family so they’ll know to stay alert and not fall for these scams.
