Shomrim Begins Installing ‘Emergency Phones’ in Shuls
Boro Park – The Shomrim organization began installing “emergency phones” in every beis medrash in Boro Park, a giveaway it promised a month ago in gratitude for a successful fundraiser.
The phones do not require dialing. Just pick up and press one of three buttons and it automatically dials 911, Hatzolah or Shomrim. The first batch that was put up on Monday consisted of 67 phones, which will be followed by 34 in the coming days.
To order one for your shul, call 718-746-6746 or email emergencyphone@boroparkshomrim.com.
Shomrim is planning on giving them to shuls in other areas such as Lakewood and Monsey as well.
The freebie comes amid a rise in crime in the neighborhood. Shomrim has worked with police to respond to these incidents and track down the perpetrators.
“People are anxious about their safety in Boro Park,” a Shomrim spokesman said in a statement. “We want to do whatever we could to alleviate their concerns. Putting up these emergency phones in public places is how we give back to the community.”
