Shomrim Helps Track Down Suspect After Construction Site Theft Leads to Loaded Gun Discovery

By Y.M. Lowy

A call came into Shomrim about thousands of dollars’ worth of tools stolen from a construction site on 38th Street. Shomrim members began looking into the incident and reviewing available security footage to help identify what happened. During the review, they noticed a male entering the backyard area of the construction site.

While examining the footage and the scene further, members made an unexpected discovery: a loaded firearm had been left behind in the corner of the construction site.

The NYPD was notified, and the department’s Evidence Collection Team responded to the scene, collecting fingerprints and removing the firearm for further investigation.

Meanwhile, Shomrim continued working to locate the individual believed to be connected to the theft. During patrol, a Shomrim member spotted the suspect in the area and quickly alerted additional Shomrim members and the NYPD.

Police responded and took the suspect into custody. He was arrested and charged with burglary and criminal possession of a loaded firearm.

This arrest was one of several incidents handled by Shomrim over the past 48 hours, with members assisting in seven additional arrests among other emergency calls.
