Son of Rav Dovid Olewski Named as New Gerrer Rosh Yeshiva

Boro Park - Three weeks after the petira of the Gerrer rosh yeshivah, Rav Dovid Olewski’s son was named as his replacement by the rebbe.

Rav Yisroel Moshe Olewski, who lives in Tel Aviv and is a maggid shiur in the Gerrer yeshiva there, Yeshiva Chiddushei Harim, will soon return to New York and take up the leadership of the yeshiva.

Rav Dovid Olewski zt”l, the longtime rosh yeshiva, was niftar days before Pesach from the coronavirus. Rav Avrohom Yosef Irenstein, a leading figure in Gur, immediately contacted Rav Yisroel Moshe and advised him that he will likely be named the new head. Rav Yisroel Moshe consulted with the rebbe, who gave his blessing to the proposal.

The new rosh yeshiva is a son-in-law of Rav Nochum Kornwasser zt”l, the former rosh yeshiva of Chiddushei Harim in Tel Aviv.
