Surprising Change to Toll Evasion Fines
By Idy Perl
In a surprising turn of events, the MTA board is scheduled to finalize a lowered fine for toll evasion.
Starting in September, drivers who evade tolls will be fined only $50, half of the $100 fine that’s in place now. If and when Hochul implements the congestion toll in Manhattan this new toll will apply for that as well.
The change comes after new legislation in Albany that is part of a wider program that will crack down on toll evasion. The goal for this change is to encourage those who skirt the law to actually pay their fines.
