Teenager in White Lake Drowning Pronounced Dead, Attempted Rescuers Critical

Multiple members of one family from Belrose, N.Y. went swimming in White Lake, in Bethel, on Sunday morning. The day would end in tragedy. 

Around 2:15, police received a call for a possible drowning in the lake. 18-year-old Basir Amin, was struggling to stay afloat in a deep part of the lake. His sister, Amin Nasir, 21, and his uncle, Afrid Haider, 34, rushed to save him. 

All three went underwater, and were pulled from the water by rescuers. Multiple members of Catskills Hatzolah responded to the scene, as well as local firefighters, police departments, and State Troopers. The victims were transported to Garnet Medical Center, where Basir was pronounced dead, and his relatives in critical condition.
