Thanksgiving Delays Trash Pickup One Day and Recycling Pick-Up One Week

By Yehudit Garmaise

With Thanksgiving weekend starting today, trash, curbside composting, nor recycling will be collected on Nov. 23, the New York City Department of Sanitation (DSNY) announced.

Residents whose trash and composting is normally picked on Thursdays, may place their materials at their curb on Thursday evening: for collections beginning on Friday.

In observance of the federal holiday, the DSNY will skip one week of recycling collection. Therefore, residents who normally get their recycling picked up on Thursdays should hold on their materials until they can placed at curbside a week later: on Wednesday, Nov. 29 for pickup on Thursday, Nov. 30.

“We appreciate residents’ patience, as we work to collect the backlog of material,” the DSNY said. “Residents should expect collection delays, as is common after holidays.”
