The New York State Thruway Sloatsburg Mincha Area Relocates for the Summer

After twenty-seven consecutive years, the New York State Thruway Sloatsburg Tefilas Mordche Mincha Area has relocated for the summer while the service area is closed for renovation.
The Town of Ramapo has agreed to host the new mincha minyan rest stop beginning on Thursday, June 22 at 120 Torne Valley Road in Hillburn. The location is a few minutes from the Thruway’s Exit 15 A.
As part of a modernization project, eleven New York State Thruway service areas will be redeveloped. The $450 million project, which began last January, is being done in partnership with Empire State Thruway Partners. No toll or tax dollars are being used for construction.
The service area will be missed as it was a critical stop for Catskills-bound travelers who appreciated the easily accessible location where travelers could daven with a minyan and stop for the kosher food available in the vending machines located at the upper level.
The Sloatsburg Mincha area was renamed the Tefilas Mordche Mincha Area in 2010. It was renamed in memory of police chaplain and Kiryas Yoel resident Mordche Friedman, who dedicated his Thursday evenings to supervising the service area.
