TODAY: Communities Around Boro Park to Celebrate Hachnosas Sifrei Torah
The torah celebrations continue, today, in nearly every corner of Boro Park.
The Yokke Rov, Rav Chaim Yeshaye Kenig, zt”l, was a ga’on and posek who was a baki in every area of Torah. He was the author of the series of seforim Chukei Chaim, and led Khal Cheshek Shloime (in the memory of his father, zt”l) for many decades.
Today, the kehillah will inaugurate a Sefer Torah, written in his memory. The kesivas osiyos will take place at the home of his grandson, Rav Yehuda Leib Kenig, shlit”a, Yokke-Tchechevitzer Rov, on Tehama street, which is across Boro Park. The procession will leave at around 6:00 from 12th Avenue and 51st street to Khal Cheshek Shloime Yokke.
The Boyaner Kehillah will welcome a sefer Torah written by Reb Zev Fischman, one of the prestigious members of the Kehillah, a son of the legendary Boyaner chossid, Reb Chaim Dovid Elimelech, z”l, a pillar of the Boyaner chassidus.
The Spinka kehillah on 56th Street will inaugurate a sefer Torah in the memory of Reb Tzvi Kenig, a beloved member of the kehillah who passed away from Covid-19. The final letters will be written in the home of the Spinka Rebbe, to whom he was very close.
Meanwhile, the Skverer Shtiebel at 12th Avenue and 54th Street will welcome a sefer Torah written by the Carmel family in memory of their parents. The event will be attended by the sons of the Skverer Rebbe shlit”a.
Two blocks up, Khal Toras Yofe-Besermin—located at 1056 54th Street— will inaugurate a sefer Torah, written by the Greenfeld family, longtime mispalelim at the shul. The Greenfelds are dedicating this sefer Torah in the memory of their parents who have perished in the Holocaust, Hy”d.
Our Torah, a Toras chaim, a Torah of life, is our source of life—breathing life into our new generations, as we commemorate the legacies of those who have passed on—as we joyfully embrace our precious Torah on the streets of Boro Park.
