Today in History: Saddam Hussein was Captured

Saddam Hussein, the fifth president of Iraq, was found hiding in a camouflaged hole in the ground on December 13, 2003. He was captured by American forces near Tikrit, Iraq in the military act known as Operation Red Dawn. He was subsequently handed over to the interim Iraqi government. Hussein stood trial in Iraq and was found guilty of crimes against humanity including murder and torture. He was hanged in a military base called Camp Justice, 3 years after his capture in December 2006.
