Travel Advisory Issued for NYC Ahead of Severe Weather Tonight
By Y.M. Lowy
New York City officials have issued a travel advisory ahead of heavy rain, strong winds, and possible thunderstorms expected to move through the area today.
Forecasters say the rain will become heavier later today and continue overnight, bringing the potential for localized flooding. Most areas are expected to see up to 2 inches of rain, though some spots could pick up as much as 4 inches.
Strong wind gusts of 40 to 50 mph are also possible during the storm.
Avoid driving through flooded roadways and to remain indoors if severe weather develops.
City agencies have taken steps to prepare for the storm, including clearing catch basins and inspecting flood-prone locations. Crews will also be on standby to respond to downed trees, branches, and stranded vehicles.
