Unshoveled and Unacceptable: Post Office Sidewalk Still Icy Days After Blizzard
By Y.M. Lowy
Frustration is growing in Boro Park after the latest snowfall left the sidewalk around the local post office untouched.
Several days after the blizzard, the post office at 51st Street and New Utrecht Avenue remains surrounded by packed snow and ice. While most of the neighborhood has already been cleared and made walkable, the stretch directly along the building is still slippery and uneven.
With icy patches lining the walkway, people are forced to move slowly and carefully just to avoid falling. Some are choosing to stay away altogether.
What’s striking is the contrast. The driveway and parking lot entrance have been properly cleared, making it easy for postal trucks to pull in and out. But the sidewalks remain untreated.
In a community where property owners generally shovel promptly, many are asking why this stretch has been left behind days after the storm.
