Usher in the New Year with an age-old segulah

It’s Erev Rosh Hashana. 

The table is set, the honey jar glistens, and women around the word prepare to welcome the New Year. Standing in front of our candles, we reflect on the year past and beg to be inscribed in the Book of Life for the year to come. 

An ocean away, another woman stands at her candles—her table bare, her apartment sparse. A widow in Yerushalayim also ushers in the New Year, but her heart is filled with trepidation. She wonders how she will provide for her family—feed them, clothe them, and keep them safe. 

Thankfully, there is help out there.
