Wave of Emergencies Hits Boro Park During Intense Heatwave
By Y.M. Lowy
As temperatures soared across the city, emergency crews in Boro Park faced a wave of incidents that unfolded almost back-to-back, including multiple fires, electrical hazards, and a major car accident all in a single day. Con Edison trucks could be seen working on the electric wires in many locations.
A four-car crash on Ocean Parkway between 18th Avenue and Ditmas Avenue drew a large emergency response, with police, fire, and medical teams working together to manage the scene and traffic flow.
On 63rd Street and 23rd Avenue, a house fire caused extensive damage and debris. FDNY crews extinguished the blaze and remained on site to monitor hot spots amid the lingering heat.
A parked car leaking fluid created a slick mess on 17th Avenue and 62nd Street. Firefighters applied absorbent sand to the area to prevent further risk.
Several electrical issues also kept responders busy. In addition to the 13th Avenue power outages this morning from yesterday’s smoking manholes, a smoking manhole was reported on 53rd Street between 13th and 14th Avenues, and multiple manholes were seen burning on 8th Avenue and 46th Street. At 55th Street and 11th Avenue, live wires caught fire, prompting firefighters to secure the area with caution tape.
Amidst high temperatures, heavy gear, and nonstop calls, we express our sincere admiration to the fire crews for their dedication and service.
