With High Winds Forecast, NYC Banning Large Vehicles Monday
New York - With a weather forecast predicting rain and heavy winds, New York City transportation authorities issued a ban on empty large trucks from driving on bridges on Monday.
Included in the ban are tractor-trailer, tandem trailers, piggyback trailers, dual trailers, and multiple trailers. When empty, they are at greater risk of being toppled by high winds.
The ban is in effect citywide for all MTA bridges and starts at 10 a.m. The MTA urges drivers to consider alternate routes and allow for additional travel time.
The rain will arrive in the morning and continue throughout the day. Wind gusts can be in the 60 mph range and may stay through Tuesday.
