With Temps Falling, Landlords Obligated to Give Heat
YS Gold
As the autumn chill sets in, many are turning on the heat at home. But those renting from landlords often depend on their choosing whether to give heat.
According to NYC law, landlords are obligated to give heat as soon as the temperature drops below 55 degrees Fahrenheit, bringing the temperature to at least 68 degrees between 6:00 a.m. and 10:00 p.m. For the overnight hours, the temperature must be no lower than 62 degrees.
The laws for the exact temperatures vary by state, and with fall progressing towards winter, landlords everywhere will see their heating fuel costs go up.
