Wondering About the Wooden Tree Gates? It’s All Part of Boro Park’s New Green Infrastructure
By Y.M. Lowy
In recent days, residents of Boro Park may have noticed wooden gates being installed around trees on some streets.
BoroPark24 reached out to the New York City Department of Design and Construction (DDC) for details about the work and its purpose. In response, DDC confirmed that the installations are part of a $76.5 million green infrastructure project across Community Boards 11, 12, and 14, including Boro Park. The map shows exactly where the green infrastructure work is happening.
The project involves installing more than 40,000 linear feet, roughly 7.5 miles, of porous concrete. This green infrastructure is designed to reduce pressure on the city’s sewer system. Anyone who lives in Boro Park knows the problem: every time it rains, our street drains can’t keep up, and water pools on every street. By allowing water to seep into the ground rather than overwhelming sewers, the project helps prevent that issue.
The DDC pointed out that this investment in public infrastructure is a significant step in helping neighborhoods like Boro Park reduce flooding risks.
BoroPark24 will stay on the forefront of this project, continuing to report on all updates and progress so residents can stay informed every step of the way.
