2,500 Illegal Migrants Will Shelter at Brooklyn's Floyd Bennett Field
by Mindy Cohn
After months of negotiation, the Biden administration has finally acquiesced to lease Brooklyn's Floyd Bennett Airfield to New York City to shelter 2,500 illegal migrants.
This sudden new development with Floyd Bennett Field cancels any scheduled events the locations committed to as far back as last year. This includes the bi-annual Chasdei Lev rebbe/morah pre-yom tov food distribution previously planned for September 10, leaving the chesed organization scrambling for a new location on such short notice.
Governor Hochul says the State will pay for the operation of the new location at Floyd Bennett Field. On top of those costs, the State will also dole out $20 million of New Yorkers' tax dollars to expedite assistance for 30,000 illegal immigrants in finding jobs. The goal of that funding is to lead to some semblance of independence on the part of the illegals to ease the crowding in the overtaxed shelters, as more than 100,000 illegals have flooded New York City since 2022.
Mayor Eric Adams says more than 59,000 illegal migrants are sheltering at 200 different sites in the City's care draining the City's coffers daily at a cost of $10,000 per person per month.
In a press release, the State also says it has committed $1.5 billion to support New York City's efforts to shelter illegals and has deployed more than 1,800 New York National Guard members to provide logistical and operational support at City shelters.
