$40M Secured for Electric Vehicles
By Y.M. Lowy
Mayor Eric Adams announced today that New York City has snagged $40 million in EPA grants to replace some of its polluting diesel vehicles.
The city will use the funds to swap out 55 diesel trucks for electric ones and add 109 electric school buses, helping reduce harmful emissions and make the city cleaner. The grants also include money to build more charging stations and train workers on how to maintain the new electric vehicles.
Deputy Mayor Meera Joshi celebrated the win, saying it’s a big step toward making New York City one of the most prepared cities in the country for climate change.
Of course, these electric vehicles won’t magically make the city’s traffic any better, but at least they’ll do it quietly while saving the planet.
