Alert for Kohanim: Vaad Mishmeres Kehunah Issues Bay Parkway Warning

Vaad Mishmeres Kehunah has issued an urgent notice warning Kohanim of an ohel hatumah concern on Bay Parkway between McDonald Avenue and Avenue J.

The notice specifies the side of the street heading from McDonald Avenue toward Avenue J, opposite the Mobil gas station. The restriction applies whether walking or traveling by car or bus, until the issue is corrected.

According to the Vaad, recent city changes reduced two traffic lanes to one, shifting the lane Kohanim had previously been permitted to use. Tree branches extending over graves at Washington Cemetery also overhang the roadway, creating the concern along the affected route.

The Vaad says askanim are working with city officials to address the issue and hopes it will be corrected within the coming days. Kohanim should use an alternate route in the meantime.
