Alert: Simchah-Goers Find Cars Towed from Extra Space Storage Lot

By Idy Perl
Last night, simchah-goers in the "Simcha District," the area around 13th-14th Avenues and 36th Street known for its many wedding halls, were unpleasantly surprised to find their cars being towed away.
Many drivers attending celebrations at one of the wedding halls frequently use the parking spaces in front of the Extra Space Storage, despite clear signage warning that the spots are reserved for storage customers. These spaces are typically empty late at night, tempting drivers to park there.
Around midnight, a wedding attendee stepped outside to find his car being lifted by a tow truck. Despite his protests, the tow operator refused to release the vehicle without payment. The car owner was forced to pay $200 on the spot to have his car returned.
Drivers are strongly urged to heed the parking restrictions in the Extra Space Storage lot and find alternate parking options to avoid costly and inconvenient towing incidents.
If your car is towed, ensure that the towing company does not overcharge beyond the regulated pricing. Many such incidents have been reported in our area in recent months.
