BDE: Harav Munish Weintraub zt”l

We regret to inform you of the petirah of Harav Munish Weintraub zt”l, one of the ziknei Chasidei Gur in the United States.

Harav Weintraub was born in Lisabek, Poland, to his father, Hagaon Harav Aharon Yehuda zt”l, who served as the Rav of Lisabek, and to his mother, Rebbetzin Leah Tesha a”h, a descendant of an illustrious rabbinic family in Poland. R’ Aharon Yehuda was a musmach of the Warsaw Mesivta and was exceptionally close to the Gerrer Rebbes.

At the young age, his family relocated to Eretz Yisroel, where his father became Rav of Kiryas Yosef (today part of the greater Bnei Brak area). During that period, his father developed a close and enduring relationship with the Chazon Ish zt”l and the Ponevezh Rov zt”l.

In the late 1940’s, Harav Aharon Yehuda moved with his family to Boro Park, thereafter he founded together with Harav Akiva Zilberberg zt”l the famed Gur Yeshiva Yagdil Torah, which became a renowned makom Torah, and served as Nasi throughout the years.

As a young bochur, R’ Munish learned in the famous Yeshiva Ohr Yisroel in Petach Tikvah, and after arriving in America he learned at Yeshiva Torah Vodaas, he later became involved with the Ezras Torah organization under the leadership of Harav Yosef Eliyahu Henkin zt”l. Through this connection, he was privileged to assist Rav Henkin with numerous complex halachic matters—particularly in areas of Even Ha’ezer,—and, following Rav Henkin’s guidance, he assisted the Agudas Harabonim in dealing with these sensitive inyonim under the direction of Gedolei Yisroel, including Harav Moshe Feinstein zt”l and Harav Chaim Tzvi Krieger zt”l.

R’ Munish married his Rebbetzin, Rebbetzin Rochel (tichyeh), the daughter of the distinguished Yerushalmi tzaddik, Harav Yisroel Shimon Kastelanitz zt”l of Slonim. Together, they established a home in Boro Park known for its dedication to Torah, chesed, and hachnasas orchim.

Rabbi Weintraub played a pivotal role in guiding the Diskin Orphanage, being machzik and assisting yesomim and almanos, continuing in the path of Rav Yehoshua Leib Diskin zt”l.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Rebbetzin Rochel Weintraub; his son, R’ Yaakov Weintraub of Lakewood; his daughters, Mrs. Batsheva Garber of Boro Park, Mrs. Chavi Goldberg of Boro Park, and Mrs. Sima Zaks of Monsey; his sisters, Mrs. Chava Pechter, Mrs. Hadassa Hoffman, and Mrs. Tzipa Billig; as well as grandchildren and great-grandchildren who follow in his ways of Torah and chesed.

The levaya took place on Sunday at the Lakewood Chapel, followed by kevurah in the Lakewood Bais Hachaim.
