BDE: Mrs. Chaya Sarah Goldberger, a”h

We regret to inform you of the petirah of Mrs. Goldberger, a longtime Boro Park resident. She was 75 years of age, and had been unwell in recent years. 

The nifteres was born in Bomberg, Germany in the year 1947, following the terrible Churban that took her parents’ entire families. 

Her father was Reb Yechiel Mechel Engelman, originally from Chust, and a talmid of the Helmetzer Ruv, zt”l. Arriving in America, the Engelman’s settled in Brownsville, then Crown Heights, and later in Boro Park. Reb Yechiel Mechel worked as a chazzan in the Bronx and different shuls, and was known to be an ehrliche Yid who raised his children to a life of yiras Shomayim.  

Chaya Sarah married R’ Leibish Goldberger, z”l, who was niftar of during the Covid-19 Epidemic. 

“She was an extremely warm personality who cared deeply for anyone she encountered,” recalled an acquaintance. The oldest of seven siblings, she took her responsibility very seriously throughout her life, doting on her siblings with tremendous dedication. 

To her own children, she was a devoted matriarch, and she raised Torah generations, with marbitzei Torah and bnei Torah among them. 

The Goldberger’s were longtime mispalelim in the Burshtiner Beis Medrash on 12th Avenue, and the Levaya will take place in Burshtin at 10:00 this morning. Kevurah will be on the beis Hachaim in Kiryas Yoel.
