BDE: Mrs. Sarah Baila Iwaniski, a”h

We are saddened to inform you of the passing of Mrs. Iwaniski, a longtime Boro Park resident, a Holocaust survivor who rebuilt from the ashes in spectacular fashion. She was 98 years of age. 

She was  the daughter of the legendary Reb Dov Berish Perkal, and hailed from generations of Amshinover chassidim. 

The nifteres married Reb Alter Chaim Iwaniski, a Holocaust survivor who danced in the gas chambers as he was being prepared to die al kiddush Hashem. The Nazis were so incensed that they removed him from there to continue suffering, thus saving his life. Together they built a Torah home, with many children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren who follow in their ways. 

Her sister was married to the previous Amshinover Rebbe, and as the sister of the Rebbetzin, she could always be found in the Boro Park Amshinover shtiebel at his sister’s side, occupying a prominent place. 

She leaves behind generations who are a credit to her, and her family’s legacy.
