BDE: Reb Eli Farkash, z”l
We are saddened to inform you of the passing of R’ Eli
Farkash, z”l, a beloved figure in the Boro Park community who had recently
moved to Sea Gate. He was 58.
He was born in the town of Selish, Ukraine, where his
father, Reb Yosef Shmuel, was the rov—leading the community, and raising his
family, with true mesirus nefesh for Yiddishkeit. Reb Yosef Shmuel was a native
of Chust, and had learned in Sighet.
Later in life, he had been a chavrusa and chossid of the
Ribnitzer Rebbe, zy”a—a kesher that remained with the family to the very end.
The Farkash’s uncle, Reb Tzvi Volf Herman, was a gabbai of the Ribnitzer Rebbe
both back home, as well as later in the United States.
The family made Aliyah in the year 1967, where Reb Yosef
Shmuel passed away a number of years later.
Eli and some of his siblings came to America.
Many Boro Parkers may remember him from his days as a driver
for Get-A-Car car service. He was always running to do chessed for others in
every way that he could. He frequented the Ungvarer beis medrash, and was
adored by many of the mispalelim.
In later years, he moved to Sea Gate, where is fondly
remembered by many of the residents.
