BDE: Reb Hershel Billet, z”l

We regret to inform you of the passing of R’ Tzvi Yehuda (Hershel) Billet, a beloved, longtime resident of the Boro Park community. He was niftar at the untimely age of 61.

The niftar was born to Reb Yosef Moshe Billet, a Holocaust survivor. He was a bnon shel kedoshim, a descendant of the Admorim of Sanz and Ropshitz—and, according to those who knew him, his Yichus was evident upon him.

He married, tbl”ch, Mrs. Esther Billet, née Steif, a descendant of the legendary Rav Yonasan Steif, zt”l.

Anyone asked about Reb Tzvi Yehuda immediately recalls his eidelkeit, a sterling character, and middos tovos. As a bachur he learned in Yeshiva Beis Hatalmud where he acquired a love for Torah that never left him.

A longtime neighbor relates, “I could talk about Hershel for days. His eidelkeit, his always having a good word for everyone… it’s a tremendous loss for us all.”

He was one of the chashuve longtime mispalelim at the Semihai Beis Medrash on 21st Avenue, where he was beloved by all. “He always had a good word for everyone, and know just the right thing to tell each person,” related on mispalel.

Sadly, the Reb Tzvi Yehuda became unwell about one year ago and was niftar in the early hours of Friday morning.

The Levaya will take place at 11:00 Friday morning at Shomrei Hadas.
