BDE: Reb Shloime Moskowitz, a”h, Holocaust Survivor, President of Bnei Yehuda
We are saddened to inform you of the passing
of Reb Shloime Moskowitz, the president of Congregation Bnei Yehuda, pillar of
the Bercher Shtiebel, and ardent Chossid of four generations of Viznitzer
Rebbeim. He was 93 years of age.
He was born in the Romanian town of Dubova, and the family were chassidim of the Ahavas Yisroel of Viznitz. His blissful youth was cut short by the Holocaust, which he spent in the Dachau and Auschwitz concentration camps. He was left alone in the world. But he vowed to rebuild.
He came to America around 1949, and opened a butcher shop on 13th avenue, where he worked long and hard hours. Simultaneously, he was among the first mispalelim in Berch, where he remained a prominent mispalel to the end of his life.
Eventually he went into real estate, in which he was successful.
No matter where he went, his heart was in Viznitz. He would always return there for the Yomim Nora’im, and at other times throughout the year. He was close to the Imrei Chaim, to the Yeshuos Moshe, and to the current Rebbe, Reb Yisroel, shlit”a.
He was meticulous with minyanim and in his keviyas ittim—maintaining his chavrusa throughout the years, until only recently.
He attracted people with his incredible, generous and friendly personality. “The family is spread out throughout the United States, but his home was where everyone wanted to be,” recalls a family member.
The Levaya will take place in Shomrei Hadas at 9:00 on Friday morning. Kevurah will be in the Bnei Yehuda society.
Yehi Zichro Baruch.
