Beware: DSNY Fines Boro Parkers For Not Shoveling Snow

By Idy Perl
The city has been warning local residents for a long time that homeowners can be fined for not shoveling snow on the sidewalk in front of their homes, but the law has not often been enforced in the past.
Following the latest snowstorm on Sunday the sanitation department has doubled down and is now fining homeowners in Boro Park who have not cleared the snow in front of their home. Homeowners have several hours to clear the snow depending on when the snow falls; if the snow stops falling between 7am- 5 pm, property owners have four hours to clear the sidewalk. If the snow falls between 5pm- 9pm, they have 14 hours to clear the snow, and when snow falls overnight, it must be removed by 11 am the next day.
Homeowners can face fines up to $150 for the first offense, and up to $350 for second or third offenses.
At the same time, police and enforcement officials conduct urged a traffic stop, stopping and fining drivers who did not clean their car properly.
