Bobov Leadership Endorses Cuomo, Signaling Strong Orthodox Support in NYC Mayoral Primary
By BoroPark24 Staff
Bobov’s leadership announced its endorsement of former Governor Andrew Cuomo for the Democratic mayoral primary, a significant step toward consolidating Orthodox Jewish support for a candidate seen as aligned with the community’s values and New York City’s broader needs. After meetings with multiple candidates, Askanim from Bobov determined Cuomo is the strongest choice to lead, according to a statement released by the leaders.
The primary includes far-left candidates who have polled competitively and expressed views critical of the Orthodox Jewish community, heightening the stakes of the election. “This is a critical moment, and we cannot allow those who oppose our values to lead the city,” a spokesperson stated, emphasizing the importance of voter turnout.
During discussions, Bobov leaders pressed Cuomo on COVID-19 policies that disproportionately affected the community. Cuomo acknowledged past errors, expressed regret, and committed to maintaining open communication with the community, the leaders said. He also pledged to appoint Orthodox Jewish advisors to ensure culturally sensitive decision-making in his administration.
In the ranked-choice voting system, leaders of the Kehila selected Senator Zellnor Myrie as their second choice for his role in overturning restrictive education legislation and Council Speaker Adrienne Adams as their third choice for her consistent leadership.
The endorsement marks a key moment in the mayoral race, highlighting efforts to unify Orthodox Jewish voters behind Cuomo, with many others expected over the next few days, sources told BoroPark24.
