Bobover Chassidus Celebrates Dedication of Unique Sefer Torah in Honor of the Rebbe

By: Boropark24 staff

The first day of chol hamoed was a day of joy and history in the Bobover chassidus as the entire community celebrated the completion of a Sefer Torah which was written and dedicated in honor of the Bobover Ruv Shlit”a by R’ Yisroel (Izzy) Englander, a philanthropist and patron of the chassidus.

This unique Torah is likely one of the most expensive Sifrei Torah in history. It is said to be a work of art, and one of the most prominent sofrim of our generation has been commissioned to write it. In keeping with Bobover tradition, the Torah is written in the ‘Sanzer ksav,’ and the tiny lettering is breathtakingly beautiful.

The procession left the mesivta building on 48th street amid great fanfare, and made a stop in middle of the block where a thousand tinnokos shel bais rabban where arrayed on the bleachers. The ruv, along with Mr. Englander, danced alongside the children, rejoicing with the Torah and with those who will carry it forth to future generations. It eventually was brought into the Bobover Beis Medrash where joyous dancing continued, and the Torah was placed in the Aron Kodesh.

It is especially poignant that this Torah was completed during the interim days of sukkos, in time for Simchas Torah, when the Bobover Admorim traditionally dance the hakofos with a tiny Sefer Torah

This year the Bobover Ruv will dance with his very own personal Sefer Torah (which will also travel with him wherever he goes). He will dance in the center of thousands of his chassidim during the most elevated moments of the hakofos—a leader of his flock transmitting the joy and the love of the holy Torah to generations of his chassidim who will hold onto these moments and feelings for the entire year.
