The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has received credible information of a security threat to synagogues in New Jersey, the FBI Newark just tweeted.

“We ask at this time that you take all security precautions to protect your community and facility,” the FBI tweeted. “We will share more information as soon as we can. Stay alert. In case of an emergency call the police.

The nature of the threat was not immediately clear, but law enforcement sources told ABC News it was not a bomb threat.

While many other safety measures are unfortunately needed for all shuls to keep their congregants safe, mispallelim should remember that keeping their doors locked is the best way to deter unwanted intruders, many community security volunteers say.

"There are no threats against any New York communities or synagogues," NYPD Inspector Richie Taylor told BoroPark24.

The NYPD is continually working with its Intelligence and Counter-Terrorism Task Force and federal partners to monitor any threats.
