Brooklyn Army Terminal Sees First Ever Community Energy Effort
By Y.M. Lowy
A community project just launched in Sunset Park. For the first time in New York City, residents and small business owners started a locally owned energy effort based right on the roof of the Brooklyn Army Terminal.
The setup collects energy from the sun and turns it into electricity that flows directly to around 200 homes and small businesses in the neighborhood. This means lower electric bills and less need to rely on large utility companies.
What makes it different is that it’s fully run by the community, with the profits going back into local programs and future projects.
