A Monticello couple was arrested at their home by New York State Police on Friday for committing an armed home robbery in the nearby town of Thompson.
According to the victim, James Smith and Stacey Wilson showed up at his door around 2:30 early Friday morning. The woman asked for help, and a moment later, the man pushed inside armed with a machete and a pocketknife.
They stole money, valuables, and the keys to a Ford F-150, which they absconded with.
The male perpetrator also attacked the victim with the machete on his way out, causing a laceration.
A short while later, police located the couple matching this description, and they were in possession of the keys to the pickup truck, which was found in a Monticello government lot.
They were charged with armed burglary and robbery, assault, and criminal possession of a weapon, and subsequently jailed in Sullivan County.
